School Uniforms

1. What difficulties did many Jenin women face before introduction to the project?

Obviously, they suffered the features of poverty, just like many other. With the majority of the Jenin women having no education, they have a big disadvantage to get themselves out of poverty. Most work in low-wage jobs in small factories and quarries, which require no skill or education.

2. In what ways has the project assisted them to begin to emerge from poverty?

The project assisted and gave them what the Jenin women essentially needed to start a process of emerging from poverty. Examples of these are offering basic life skills and job training, and after that, small loans to start a business.

3. What are the benefits of the project for the women’s families and the wider community?

For men who lose their jobs for political reasons (border closures), these loss of jobs can be backed up by women who have enrolled in the project, and the family financial balance would not be upset. Also, with these projects, the Jenin women has more opportunities to prove themselves that they are worthy to the family.

4. Which do you think is the better approach: ‘women in development’ or ‘gender and development’? Why?

I think the ‘gender and development’ approach is a better one, simply because it is a subjective approach, only giving opinions to one side, which is women. Also, it is unnoticeably a very biased writing, only mentioning women and their positive side and reasons, while they merely mention about men just once, when they mention it just to show their negative side.

Green= Example
Purple = Personal Experience/ Evidence (Just a note, not all schools do have to wear uniforms, so this doesn't apply to all schools. Some biased words include 'grossest form', 'torture', 'inflict', 'uncomfortable', 'selfish', 'stupid and warped', 'ashamed', 'humiliated', 'gross, boring and uninteresting". Who is the "someone" who designed the school uniform? When were you allowed to choose clothes to school? Is this is reliable source? Do all schools wearing uniforms apply to this, because I sometimes see students actually enjoying their uniform because it is made of comfortable material and has the newest fashion style.)

School uniforms have to be the grossest form of torture that schools inflict on kids. Do any teachers know how uncomfortable school uniforms are? AND how selfish it is that kids can’t show their own fashion sense freely instead of wearing someone else’s stupid and warped idea of what is fashion! I’m ashamed to wear my uniform anywhere except at school and even at school I feel humiliated-the only thing that makes it acceptable is that every other student has to wear the stupid clothes. Personally, I think I can choose my own clothes and should be trusted to do that. When I was allowed to choose my own clothes to wear to school, I felt a lot better. Now wearing a gross, boring and uninteresting uniform day in and day out, makes me feel like I should change schools. School kids should never have to wear uniforms.

Unbiased writing:

It is rumored nowadays that an English Football club, Manchester United, has one of the strongest squads in the history of soccer. Senior correspondents of ESPNStar state that the English club is believed to have the strongest squad in many years. But on the contrary, other news state that Real Madrid, rumored by ESPNStar to have spent about 100 million euros on new players, was and still remains the best team, with their flawless and practically perfect teamwork making them score even in the worst situations. As the world becomes more competitive, no matter how much one argues, one team will never officially become better than the other.

Unbiased Statement:

Biased writing:
Cereal is the best choice for breakfast. Many outsiders and foreigners, especially China and Korea, condemn the fact that cereal is the main course of breakfast to many North Americans. But then they only think that because they are pigged out on ginseng and other disgusting stuff that they think would make them ‘live longer.’ According to a blog in blogger.com named “The Breakfast Bowl,” nearly 1 every 2 people in the US have cereal for breakfast because they usually contain wheat, corn, rice, etc, which are essential grains to healthy protein. Cereal, which is easy to prepare, is and will be one of the most preferred breakfast one day throughout the disgusting ginseng-filled world.
